Sarro, Administrator of Bethany Home of Rhode Island in Providence, Rhode Island with the 2018 Eli Pick Facility Leadership Award. The leadership award was celebrated during the awards luncheon at ACHCA’s 52nd Annual Convocation and Exposition in Orlando, Florida on Tuesday, April 24, 2018. Fewer than 11% of facilities nationwide qualify. This year, 1,717 facilities met the selection criteria. On June 22, 2017, Bethany Home of Rhode Island received the Excellence in Action award from NRC Health. This honor, awarded exclusively to NRC Health post-acute clients, recognizes organizations that achieve the highest overall resident or employee satisfaction scores in the NRC Health database–the largest source of long-term care and senior-living satisfaction metrics in the nation.
Bethany Home of Rhode Island was the only skilled nursing facility in Providence to receive the Customer Satisfaction Award.
“The Excellence in Action award remains a true testament to the overall quality being provided in today’s long-term care and senior living organizations,” said Rich Kortum, Director of Strategic Partnerships at NRC Health. “The recipients of this award continue to show the importance of focusing on what matters most to their residents, families, and employees. We are honored to partner with such high-performing organizations, and wish them continued success.”
Qualifying skilled nursing, assisted living, and independent living communities must have completed a customer or workforce satisfaction survey in 2016. Winners must also have received a minimum of 10 responses, achieving a response rate of at least 30%. Their overall responses must have scored the organization within the top 10 percent of qualifying assisted living and independent living facilities and the top 20 percent of qualifying skilled nursing facilities on either the question, “What is your recommendation of this facility to others?” or the question, “What is your recommendation of this facility as a place to work?”
“We are so proud of our staff and their dedication to quality care and attention to our residents and their families. Anyone who has visited Bethany Home realizes instantly it is a very special place with a family feel”, said W. Parish Lentz, Chairman of the Board, Bethany Home of RI. “Our board is very proud of our staff and honored by the recognition, but not at all surprised.”

On Thursday, the eighth of June, 2017, Bethany Home of Rhode Island celebrated it’s 125th Anniversary of Community Service and Support. The celebration was held at the Bethany Home campus which is located at 111 South Angell Street on the East Side of Providence.
Special Guests for the celebration were Clara Barton impersonator Sheryl Faye and Col. Ron Barnes of The Pawtuxet Rangers.
Clara Barton was the third cousin of the founder of Bethany Home; Mary Ellen Learned Brown. You can learn more about the history of the founding of Bethany Home here.
The Guest Speaker was RI General Treasurer Seth Magaziner. In his speech he lauded the importance of Bethany Home in the history of Providence and the resilience and fortitude shown by our Founding Mothers & Fathers. At the same time, he praised Bethany Home for it’s innovation and “always moving forward” mind-set as we move into the future. Elected officials have always played a role in supporting Bethany Home; our very first President was the 43rd Governor of Rhode Island, Daniel Russell Brown.
We also had the honor of having three generations of the owner of the original home, Stephen Decatur Andrews, celebrate with us. The home at 111 South Angell Street was purchased on June 14, 1893 and was dedicated on November 23, 1893 as “Bethany Home of Rhode Island”.
Thanks to our Sponsors, donors & supporters we were able to raise over $10,000.00 in celebration of our 125th Year! Here’s to the future of Bethany Home of Rhode Island!
